Mark your calendars! November 8th is X-Ray Discovery Day! Us techsters and innovators have to pay homage to one of the greatest medical inventions to date! We all know innovation can affect many different industries. If it wasn’t for Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen we wouldn’t be able to see what appears to be invisible. His findings have helped the healthcare industry immensely.
His discovery was known as a miracle and was the first way doctors could see inside the human body without having to perform surgery. Although X-Rays began to be heavily used in 1887, doctors and scientists didn’t realize the harmful effects it had on the human body until decades later. The X-Rays emitted radiation to the skin and body causing cancer. Now medical professionals are safe when using X-Rays and make sure women aren’t nursing or pregnant. They cover our body parts with lead to prevent the radiation from getting into the body. X-rays are not only used for medical practices but also for astronomy and even at the airport. In 1901, Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen was awarded his first Nobel Prize in physics for discovering X-rays. At that time, when he was asked what his thoughts were when he discovered the X-Rays, he replied, “I didn’t think, I investigated.” He had the true mentality of an innovator.
